Reviews
The evolution of the wooden truss bridge can be traced from the simple Kingpost of 1570 thru the Queenpost (1500's), Burr Arch (1840), Warren Arch (1838), and finally the Howe Truss of 1840.
This was the first truss incorporating metal rods that strengthened the structure and held it together by the use of nuts and washers at the end of each rod. It has been widely used by the Southern Pacific, among others, and is the basis for most of the covered bridges of the West.
